Peaceful Anafiotika |
The best little off-the-beaten-path spot to wander around in Athens is found perched on the northern side of the Acropolis in Anafiotika. It is a small quaint, residential neighborhood with hilly passageways that twist and turn between the tiny homes built by skilled settlers from the small Greek island of Anafi, thus "Little Anafi." This somewhat ramshackle neighborhood was at one time larger, but many of the homes have since given way to excavations related to the Acropolis.

We continue exploring and make our way to the restaurants on picturesque Mnisikleous Street where we find steps lined with inviting eateries and their hosts intently attempting to lure us in. Our first meal in Greece was here, at Yiasami. It was fine, but in hindsight we'd recommend "Slovaki Row" where you have tasty options frequented by locals.
Meandering along the western edge of The Plaka neighborhood, we window shop our way back our hotel, The Acropolis Select and since we are weary after our travels, we settle in for the night .

🚶🏼Ancient Agora 🚶🏼
Ancient Agora AwaitsArise and shine, we get an early start on our own to marvel at the aura of ancient Athens main public space dating back to 600BC, the Ancient Agora. The Agora inspires us to think of those who walked here before us: Socrates, Plato, Aristotle, and the Apostle Paul are just a few. Wow.

Impressions of Athens
"I feel like I am in a Bourne movie." says Mark,
referring to all the motorcycles zipping
in and out and through the narrow streets.
🤩 CUE A WOW MOMENT 🤩
TRUE STORY ... Becky met a distant cousin on the tour...so it really is a tour family! She just happened to see a last name that matched her maiden name and after some genealogical discussion they found they are related, quite distantly, but verifiable! We think this is a pretty cool WOW MOMENT too! |
