Healing in Epidavros |
|
In the ancient Greek world, Epidavros was known as a healing center that pioneered new methods of treating illnesses. People came for these miraculous cures, which included surgeries, baths, gymnasium, athletics and the arts as both entertainment and therapeutic experiences. We visit the ruins and the archaeological museum with our local guide, Patty.
From Epidavros it's off to the ferry at Metochi Harbor for a much anticipated ride to experience Greek island life on Hydra.

Relaxing Hydra |
Cockadoodle-doo. Hee-haw. Neigh. Clop-clop-clop
We awaken early to the charming island sounds of a new day. There are no vehicles zooming through the streets as none are allowed on the island. We find this refreshingly peaceful.
Today is ours to do as we like, so we sit outside and listen to morning breaking while relaxing with our coffees. Soon enough our host signals breakfast is ready and it is all homemade deliciousness. |
THE HIKE
After a filling breakfast, we hike up to Prophet Elias Monastery joining some of our tour family, while other friends go horseback riding. The reward for our effort is a magnificent view of the harbor and sea below.

THE HARBOR
The active harbor is a great place to people watch while enjoying
✅ a wine ✅ a spritz ✅ a gelato ✅ a pizza ✅ a gyro ✅ a sunset ✅ a prosecco One by one we check each treat off our list. |
THE CATS
Let's talk about cats for a moment. Cats rule Greece and Greece is full of stray cats that are fed both by locals and from unfinished meals at restaurants.
Unlike their mainland cousins, the cats on Hydra take on the island vibe, loungers basking in the sun just like the people around them. |

After enjoying a spontaneous Happy Hour with the tour family where everyone contributed food or drink, we aren't that hungry so we just watch the sunset with our sunset colored beverages.
